Mazarine Dream, 2022
Mazarine Dream, 2022
I created this painting shortly after returning from an artist residency in London, UK. My works are abstract, and I often meditate on moments in nature when creating them. For this particular one, I was combining some previous forms I had sketched with my interest in the Mazarine Blue butterfly (Cyaniris Semiargus). The Mazarine Blue butterfly is native to the UK since the 1700s, but became extinct in Britain in the 1900s.
The original work is acrylic on linen.

Debbi Kenote
Debbie Kenote is a New York-based artist who received her master’s degree in fine arts from Brooklyn College and has exhibited at galleries internationally. “Colorful and playful shapes recall memories of growing up outside of a rural town on the West Coast. Living in this geographical area was as serene as it was isolating. Unaware of the categories of “art” and “craft,” I eagerly absorbed multiple mediums, including painting, wood carving, quilting, ceramics and architecture. When I’m working on a composition, I think about how the shapes talk to each other, how they relate and what the space between them reveals.”
