Heart: Butterflies, 2021
These pieces focus on the medium of collage, all the source material is cut by hand. The labor-intensive process becomes meditative. Cutouts are already a set size, so compositions form out of necessity to accommodate an image’s existing scale.
These limited-edition prints are exact replicas of the original cut-and-paste collages, made of book, magazine, & giclée clippings. The collages reflect the beauty of nature and the power of love.

Marc Alain
Marc Alain is a visual artist from rural northern New Jersey who holds a bachelor of fine arts degree in photography from the Maryland Institute College of Art. “I studied photography in college. In the decade that followed, I continued to make staged portraits in New York City. Over time, the creation of my hand-made sets and props became just as important as the final pictures. Recently, I completely eliminated photography from my art practice as I began to focus on the medium of collage.”
